Base Camp (noun):
A point where you set-up a camp site for multiple night stays. Then working from this camp site, you take one or more day trips always returning to the base camp each night. This allows you to leave your camp unpacked and set up.


Base Camp Trip (noun):
This is a camping trip that uses the “Base Camp” principal out lined above (see: Base Camp).


Base Line (noun):
A bearing line (natural or artificial) that is used as a directional reference line. Most commonly used for navigation; may also be used for land surveying.


Bearing (noun):
Is a line of travel or sighting in a given direction. Often times measured as an angel off of true or magnetic north.


Bench Mark (noun):
Typically, (in the US) Bench Marks are a 4 inch (10 cm) metal disk. These are shown on USGS topo maps as an X with the letters BM and the elevation.


Blaze (noun):
A marking the shows the way or path to travel. These are commonly used on the three long distance trail in North America (the triple crowns: AT, CDT, PCT in that order from East to West).


Blue Blaze (noun):
A color that is used to denote a side trail off of a main trail.


Blue Blazer (verb):
To use a side or alternate trail from the main trail you are on because the side trail is shorter and or easier trail.
